Design and Modeling for a Mid-Tier Medical Device Company
A mid-tier medical device company developed an actuator they knew had many possibilities. Without internal expertise in piezoelectric products, however, the company didn't understand how the actuator worked or why it worked so well. They asked Actuated Medical to create models to help them understand the actuator's functions, limitations, strengths, and possible applications.
Using finite element modeling and 3-D solids modeling, Actuated Medical analyzed each subcomponent of the device using COMSOL FEA. Next, the entire device was analyzed as one system. Actuated Medical's expertise using the FEA tool enabled an in-depth study of the anisotropic properties of various materials and how they affected device performance.
Using the data we collected from our analyses, we were able relate the information to the product performance and to generate recommendations. A final report summarized our findings and explained the device’s performance. Actuated Medical may be engaged to design the next generation devices in the company's product line.
